Location of The Woodlands

Primarily located within Montgomery county, The Woodlands is situated along the along the I-45 corridor, about 30 miles north of Houston, covering over 43 square miles of woodland area.

Villages of The Woodlands

The Woodlands has a hometown feel with a structure of “villages”, which are subdivided into neighborhoods. Below is a brief write-up the home villages in this wonderful area. Village of Alden Bridge

Alden Bridge is one of the largest villages in The Woodlands. Opened in 1993, it currently has over 18,000 residents and approximately 7,000 homes. Located in the northwest corner of The Woodlands area, it’s bordered to the north by FM 1488 and the Jones State Forest, to the west by FM 2978, and to the east by SH 242/College Park Dr. 

Village of Cochran’s Crossing

Cochran’s Crossing opened in 1983 and was named for the Cochran family of Montgomery County, who once owned the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Mill. Centrally located in the heart of The Woodlands, bordered to the northeast by Research Forest Dr., to the southeast by Gosling Rd., to the southwest by Woodlands Parkway and to the northwest by Kuykendahl Rd. Home to The Woodlands High School and the 27-hole Palmer Golf Course

Village of College Park  

College Park opened in 1995 and includes the area around SH 242 and the neighborhood of Harper’s Landing on the east side of I-45. Named after and the location of the Lone Star College and Sam Houston State University-The Woodlands Center. Harper’s Landing is one of the two larger neighborhoods of College Park and is the only section of The Woodlands located on the east side of I-45. The second larger neighborhood, Windsor Hills, is unique within The Woodlands and designed for Active Adults over the age of 55. 

Village of Creekside Park

Creekside Park opened in 2007 and is the newest section and the only area of The Woodlands located with Harris County. South of Spring Creek and the 1,700-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve, Creekside Park is bordered to the east by Gosling Road and to the west by Kuykendahl Rd. Creekside Park has something for everyone, single-family homes, multi-family residences, Active Adult Age 55+ homes and Custom and Estate Homes within the gated-community of Carlton Woods Creekside. 

Village of Grogan’s Mill

Grogan’s Mill, opened in 1974, is the original village of The Woodlands. Named after the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company mill that was located there, prior to The Woodlands development. Conveniently located off I-45 between Rayford-Sawdust and Woodlands Parkway, adjacent to The Woodlands Town Center, Grogan’s Mill is considered “the gateway to The Woodlands”. With over 5,100 homes, including Grogan’s Point – an estate section within Grogan’s Mill, featuring larger lots of approximately 3/4 acre – homes in the Village of Grogan’s Mill have the distinction of being part of The Woodland’s “Historic District.” 

Village of Indian Springs

Indian Springs, opened in 1984, is the smallest of the villages in The Woodlands, with only 2,200 homes and over 6,000 residents. Bordered by Woodlands Parkway to the north, Gosling Rd. to the east and Spring Creek and George Mitchell Preserve to the south, Indian Springs is the only village in The Woodlands with actual hills. Named for the Indian artifacts, from the Bidai tribe of the Atakapan Indians, discovered in the area during the 1984 development. 

Village of Panther Creek

Panther Creek, opened in 1977 as the second village of The Woodlands, is named for the creek that runs through the village. Located on the western shore of the 200-acre Lake Woodlands, bordered to the west by Gosling Rd. and Woodlands Parkway and Lake Woodlands Drive crossing through the middle, Panther Creek is a walk or bike-ride from Town Center. The village has over 12,000 residents and approximately 3,600 homes, including some of the most desirable neighborhoods of The Woodlands, including Splitrock, The Cove, West Isle, and Windward Cove. 

Village of Sterling Ridge

Sterling Ridge, opened in 1999 and is named for the ‘Sterling’ Silver 25th Anniversary of The Woodlands’ which was the same year. Located on the western end of The Woodlands, Sterling Ridge is one of the newer villages and home to the Gary Player Golf Course. There over 2,500 homes within Sterling Ridge, including those within the premier, gated-community of Carlton Woods, and 900 new homes under development in the Spindle Tree neighborhood, part of a 400-acre tract along FM 2978. 

Town Center

Town Center is the ‘downtown’ of The Woodlands, with 1,000-acres of commerce, dining, entertainment and shopping for the urban lifestyle. Hosting an abundance of stand-alone shops and restaurants for all palettes, Town Center is also home to The Woodlands Mall, Market Street, The Woodlands Waterway® and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. There are a number of office buildings to attract those wanting to live and work in The Woodlands.
